SRRFC Veterans Team - February Update...

Captain Nigel and his motley crew of SRRFC vets continue to deliver the goods!

Now in its second year, the SRRFC veterans team is firmly established as the Saturday afternoon ramble-in-the-park preference for our gang of fastly approaching middle aged men! Captain Nigel and his crew achieve match readiness through a strict diet of no training whatsoever, a team medical bag stuffed full of Haribos and a pre match warm up routine consisting of a bit of a chat followed by a gentle stretch of the legs!

Of course only half of the above is true (we'll let the reader guess which parts), but this writer thinks it reads well!

The Vets team is a very important part of our club, and facilitates players who can't commit to regular training and would like to play rugby at a social level. The team consists of some old hands (take a bow Johnny P, Izzy and Nige), some former 1st XV and 2nd XV players , as well as some new players to the club who have come on board to play social rugby. The team plays home games from Rockfield Park, and has established an impressive winning record - in fact the Vets team is unbeaten for well over a year (last season culminated impressively with a cup win over St. Mary's at Energia Park aka Donnybrook Stadium).

So far this season the Vets have played 3 games - a last gasp win away to Clondalkin, an away win versus Coolmine, and a home victory against Clondalkin on 25 January. With cup season just around the corner the Vets are hoping to retain their impressive run of form, hopefully leading to retaining last year's cup title!
